Pricing challenges for transportation operators
Departures sail with seats unsold
Empty seats at departure are revenue lost forever. Static fare buckets and last-minute discounts crush yield without filling capacity.
No visibility into competing operator fares
Competing ferries, coaches, or trains adjust fares constantly across booking platforms. Manual fare-shopping is impossible at route × departure scale.
Fares ignore lead time and load factor
Most operators use fixed fare ladders. Without dynamic adjustment based on days-to-departure and current load, you over- or under-discount every single sailing.
Weekend and holiday lifts done by hand
Peak-period upcharges happen in spreadsheets, get applied late, and miss high-demand departures entirely.
How Luska helps transportation operators
Bid-price control, demand forecasting, and competitive rate intelligence — purpose-built for capacity-constrained transport.
Bid-price control per departure
Luska forecasts load factor per route × departure and sets fares using bid-price logic. Empty seats get lifted as departure approaches; fast-filling departures keep yield up.
Per-departure faresCompeting operator comp sets
Define the operators you compete with per route. Live collection of their fares is in development; until then fares are modelled, labelled as such, and kept out of the yield engine.
Load curve forecasting
Forecast pickup pace per departure based on historical load curves, lead time, day-of-week, and demand drivers (events, holidays, school terms).
Autopilot fare adjustments
Set guardrails — min/max fare, max daily change, blackout periods — and let Luska adjust within boundaries. You stay in control of policy.
Demand-driver calendar
Holidays, festivals, sporting events, and school terms automatically lift fares for affected departures across all routes.
Channel distribution
Push new fares to your reservation system, OTA, or website via webhook, CSV, or daily digest — your existing tech stack stays in place.
Common Use Cases
Ferry operators
Lift yield on weekend, holiday, and event sailings. Compete intelligently with neighboring operators across overlapping routes.
Intercity bus & coach
Bid-price control per departure across routes. Lift fares as seats fill, defend against competing operators on shared corridors.
Tour & shuttle operators
Yield-optimize seasonal capacity, event shuttles, and airport transfers without hiring a dedicated revenue manager.
Regional rail & light rail
Apply demand-driven fare adjustments where dynamic ticketing is permitted, with full audit trail for regulatory compliance.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does bid-price control work?
Luska computes a marginal value per remaining seat based on forecast load factor, days-to-departure, and competing fares. Each fare is set at or above the current bid price, ensuring you don't undersell capacity that will fill at higher rates.
Do I need to integrate with my reservation system?
No. You can start with manual fare import via CSV or push optimized fares back via webhook to most reservation systems. Native connectors are on the roadmap as pilot demand grows.
Can autopilot push fares without approval?
Only within your guardrails (min/max fare, max daily change %, blackout dates). Changes outside the auto-apply threshold queue for explicit approval.
How is a Luska comp set different from a price comparison site?
It is per route and departure date rather than headline rates. Automatic collection of competing fares is in development; until it ships, the comp-set grid shows modelled fares, clearly labelled, and they are not used to set your prices.
What route volume justifies Luska?
Operators with 5+ daily departures across 1+ route see meaningful autopilot decisions. Below that, manual pricing remains practical.
